RestaurantApp

RestaurantApp A diary of everything you've ever eaten

RestaurantApp is a free app for keeping a personal diary of restaurants, dishes and visits: log where you ate, what you ordered and what you thought of it —with a photo, a rating, the price and your notes— and find it again later by tag or on the map. It works fully without an account and offline.

The list of dishes in the diary, with photo, restaurant, price and rating.
The Home screen: the greeting, the search box, the counts of places, dishes and visits, and memories from a year ago.
The list of places in the light theme, with colour-coded tags.

How it works

Three records, all connected

The place, what you ordered there and the day you went. So you can find a dish even when you can't remember where you ate it, or open a restaurant and see every time you've been.

  1. 01

    Restaurants

The place, with its spot on the map, your rating and your tags. Search for it by name, or just tap it on the map and it's saved.

  2. 02

    Dishes

What you ordered, with a photo, the price in your currency, one to five stars and whatever you want to remember about it. Look it up by name even if you forgot where you had it.

The list of dishes, with restaurant, price, rating and tags.
  3. 03

    Visits

The day you went, who you were with and what you all ordered. A visit ties the other two together: that night's place and the dishes on that table.

The list of visits, sorted by date, each with a photo and a note.

Map

Everywhere you've eaten, in one place

Every restaurant shows up on the map with its rating. Handy for deciding where to eat when you're already out, and for discovering you've been going back to the same neighbourhood for three years.

  • Tap a place on the map to save it
  • Search your places by name
  • See your friends' map too

Your year

At the end of the year, it tells you

How many times you ate out, how many new places you tried, which month you went overboard and what your dish of the year was. No extra effort: it comes from what you already logged.

And also

The little things that bring you back

Your tags, your filters

Colour-coded tags you make up yourself, plus filters by rating, price, date or tag to find anything among hundreds of entries.

  • spicy
  • takeaway
  • would go back
  • pricey but worth it
  • birthday

In a basement with no signal, just the same

The diary lives on your phone. Offline it opens, searches and saves exactly as it does on wifi, photos included.

Friends, if you feel like it

Share the entries you choose, tag whoever was eating with you and see what your friends are eating, with likes and comments. If you want none of it, don't create an account: the social side simply doesn't exist.

The friends feed, with a photo of a dish, its rating and comments.

Memories

What you ate a year ago shows up on Home. A "remember this?" you don't have to look for.

Your backup, yours

One file with the whole diary and all its photos. Keep it wherever you like and restore it whenever you like, on this phone or another one.

Appearance

Eight palettes, light and dark

They change the background, the cards and the action colour, not just the buttons. And the theme follows your system, or you pick it.

Privacy

Without an account, your diary never leaves your phone

That's not a promise in the small print: it's how the app is built.

The diary lives in a database on the device itself and the photos in its storage. If you never sign in, what you write —places, dishes, notes, photos— is not sent to any server. There's no cut-down version waiting for you to sign up.

The one exception is the map: to draw it and to search for a restaurant, the app talks to Google Maps, like any app with a Google map. Google gets the area and what you search for, never your diary.

An account does two things: carry your diary to another device and share with friends. Both are optional, and neither is the default.

  • Zero advertising No ads, no advertising IDs, no third-party ad networks.
  • Zero analytics Nothing measures which screens you open or how long you spend on them.
  • Your diary trains nothing What you write is never used to train artificial intelligence models.
  • Private by default Every entry starts out private. Sharing is a choice you make one entry at a time.
Every detail, item by item and with its legal basis, in the privacy policy

Getting started

No sign-up, no six-step welcome tour

  1. 1 Install and open it.

No sign-up, no email, no forms. The app is already yours.

  2. 2 Log your first meal.

The place, the dish, a photo and a rating from one to five. Thirty seconds.

  3. 3 Keep going.

Around twenty dishes in, it starts to pay off: the tags you repeat and the places you go back to show up.

  4. 4 Create an account if you want,

whenever you want, to sync or share. Everything you've already logged comes with you.

FAQ

What everyone asks

Question not here? Write to maty892010@gmail.com: emails get answered.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. No subscription, no paid features, no pro version. No ads either: the whole project fits within free tiers.

Where can I get it?

On Android, from Google Play, and on iPhone, from the App Store.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The app works fully without one, and without an account your diary never leaves your phone. You only need an account to use it on several devices or to share with friends.

What if I change phones?

With an account, your diary simply appears on the new one. Without one, you make a backup —a single file with everything, photos included— and restore it on the other phone.

Can I take my data with me?

Yes, whenever you like and without asking: Settings → Backups creates a file with your whole diary and its photos.

What permissions does it need?

Camera and photos, for pictures of your dishes; location, only while the app is open, to put a restaurant on the map; and notifications, if you have an account and want updates from your friends. Nothing in the background.

What is Google sign-in used for?

Only to identify you when you create an account or sign back in: your email, name and profile picture are read to fill in your initial profile, and nothing else. Your contacts, Drive and calendar are never accessed. You can create an account with an email and password instead, or not create one at all.

Who's behind it

Mateo Álvarez

I build and publish RestaurantApp as an individual, not as a company. This site and the app are mine, and I wrote the legal pages linked from here against what the app actually does. Emails get answered: maty892010@gmail.com.
